An all-outside Haunted area (obviously not a house) which is apparently run by the same people as run the Haunted Forest (see the review), the Haunted Hollow uses a lot of the same motifs and areas as the Haunted Forest, but not to as good an effect although I personally liked the layout and physical properties better, like the pond and the gnarled trees. All your typical things were included -- a mine area with loud backhoe thingies, a pyramid with mummies, a junkyard (watch out for the spewing outhouse, which is a mystery... outhouses don't have plumbing, so why would this particular one back up? Is the damn thing built on a volcano? Sheesh... ), etc. A little better tall-person friendly than the Haunted Forest, but too many chainsaw wielding maniacs. Also, an awful lot of executions. What, does Ogden have a crime problem? My favorite things were the skeleton / spider chandeliers, which I want to hang in my house! Lots of long, empty paths marked by jack o'lanterns add tension and creepiness. |
Way, way too many animatronic things springing out on squeaky springs and motors. I find this highly annoying.
The actors were okay, but there weren't enough of them and they broke character way to easily. One sppoooooooky ghoul got visibly grossed out and shrieked, "Oh, gross... you did NOT just do that!" when Paul blew him a kiss, but the girl who asked us to help her while she fixed her mask was kind of endearing -- I had to leap in front of her when the next group came in. A lot of the actors in these places are High School students, and it shows; there's nothing that spooky about a ghoul with a cracking voice. Also, a lot of actors too one look at Paul and I in our spooky gothic attire and just sort of blew us off. I didn't mind when one chainsaw guy wouldn't chase us, but by the third chainsaw guy who refused to chase us, I was feeling sort of unloved! However, the very cute Clown in the Box played air-chainsaws with us, which had to be enough, because Paul said I couldn't take him home with us. Oh, and Paul reminded me to mention the clown who, lacking a chainsaw, picked up a stick and tried to start is, making "vrooom vrooom" noises, then chased us around with it. Very funny!
The flow was fine, since we went on a weeknight and there was not many people there. Not much of a line, and excellent flow between the areas, as the long paths between each area build you up and make you feel all creepy and spooked.
A lot on construction on the way there. The parking lot is rough. Bring cash; no credit cards accepted.
